Fundraiser to Help - October 26th
Forgotten Cats , a non-profit founded 2 years ago, was created to humanely control the unwanted cat and kitten population. Most people don’t realize that the vast majority of the kittens handed into shelters are the offspring of homeless cats which at one time were domestic cats who have been lost or abandoned. As a result they become “feral”. Because kittens can reproduce at 5 months old, a colony can multiply dramatically with just a few un-neutered cats, unless caught soon enough.
This is where Forgotten Cats comes in. They are the only organization in a 100 mile radius addressing this problem on a comprehensive basis. They use a resource intensive approach called Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR). Unlike any other organization in the region, Forgotten Cats will travel to a location and trap an entire colony (sometimes close to 30 cats) and bring them back to their clinic where they are housed, fed, and sterilized. By sterilizing all of the cats, they are effectively reducing the unwanted cat population This is normally a costly effort if it weren’t for the all volunteer crew.
Despite limited funds, the Forgotten Cats clinic sterilizes from 300 to 400 cats per month while adopting out an average of 80 cats per month through 2 Pet Smart locations.
Forgotten Cats is being inundated with requests so to handle the additional load, it is hosting a fundraising event, called, “Wine and Dine for Felines”
